"Is life a test, or more of a painting,?”asks Bonnie. We’ve been friends since elementary and now our conversations have turned existential.

I like difficult questions, but only if the answers can rest in imagination. I'm not interested in knowing it all and uncertainty fills my soul with such beautiful freedom. I'd rather explore it all and be a know-it-nothing.For a time, I wanted my photography to look like watercolored auras. A blurry visual anthropology because...isn't that life?

Not every venture in life will bear fruit. Despite our best efforts, some relationships will fail. And Mother Nature will always have the final say over us. Certainty vs. Uncertainty is an interesting theme that tested Americans when the pandemic of 2020 reared it’s ugly head. It was difficult to navigate, in part, due to how we've conditioned ourselves to be certain. We like the predictability of the every day.

My thoughts turn back to Bonnie and in a golden moment of uncertainty, I load film into my Pentax 645. I never know what will develop and I live for the thrill of it.
